Ofsted Inspection (2011) In January 2011, Ofsted returned to Warrington to re-inspect safeguarding and looked after children services. Their judgement is that the council and its partners are now meeting all of the statutory requirements. Performance is rated as adequate in 20 areas and good in the remaining two. The report contained a lot of positives for the Warrington Safeguarding Children Board. Tim Loughton MP, Minister of State for Children and Families has written to Ian Marks, Leader of the Council, acknowledging significent improvements and informs he has lifted the improvement notice placed upon Children's Services in November 2009 Ofsted Inspection 2011: Warrington Safeguarding and Looked After Children Services Letter from Tim Loughton |
Why do we have a Safeguarding Board? The law requires each local area to set up a board which brings together all major organisations responsible for delivering services to children and young people. They must co-ordinate what is done by each agency to safeguard and promote the welfare of children and young people in the area; and ensure the effectiveness of that work The Laming Report (2002) looked into the circumstances surrounding the death of a young girl called Victoria Climbie. She was killed by people close to her who should have been looking after her. The report gave many recommendations for how services could improve to prevent another tragedy happening. One of the key improvements it highlighted was the need for agencies to work together to keep children safe and to help them thrive.
